Josh Phelps had a two-run single in the victory, but the Yankees remained tied with Tampa Bay for last place in the AL East, 13 1/2 games behind first-place Boston.
Tyler Clippard (2-1) allowed four hits, including a pair of homers, and three runs over five innings to get the victory. The rookie right-hander also walked five and struck out three, and Mariano Rivera recorded the final four outs for his fourth save of the season, but his first since May 3rd.
