Baseball: Mets hope to get brooms out against Yanks

(Sports Network) - Tyler Clippard becomes the 11th different pitcher to start a game for the New York Yankees this season, as they try and avoid a three- game sweep at the hands of the Mets at Shea Stadium.
Clippard, who is also the seventh rookie starter and fifth to make his major league debut this season for the Yanks, was 3-2 with a 2.72 earned run average in eight starts at Triple-A Scranton. However, in his last five outings, the 22-year-old right-hander was 3-0 and allowed four earned runs in 25 2/3 innings.
The Mets will counter with 26-year-old right-hander John Maine, who is coming off his first loss of the season. Against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, Maine surrendered three runs and seven hits in five innings, as he slipped to 5-1 on the year, while raising his ERA to 2.15.

Maine faced the Yankees once while with the Baltimore Orioles and was hammered for seven runs (six earned) and six hits in just one inning of work.
