European PGA Tour: Hansen beats Rose in playoff for BMW title
Surrey, England (Sports Network) - Anders Hansen birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Justin Rose and win the BMW PGA Championship on Sunday.
The win was Hansen's second at this event after taking the 2002 title. That was his only other victory on the European Tour prior to his playoff win on Sunday.
"I didn't play all that great, but it was tough out there so I just tried to keep it all together - just keep the ball in play and see what happened," said Hansen.
Hansen birdied his final hole to polish off an impressive, three-under 69. Rose also tallied a birdie on the closing hole to shoot a one-under 71 under windy, wet conditions at the West Course at Wentworth Club.
The pair finished regulation at eight-under-par 280 and marched to the extra session.
At the first playoff hole, the par-five 18th, Rose drove into the right rough and was forced to play back into the fairway. Hansen found the short grass off the tee, but also elected to lay up short of the green.
