Golf: Wie going back to John Deere Classic

East Moline, IL (Sports Network) - Michelle Wie was supposed to be concentrating on playing against the women and forgetting about trying to compete with the men on the PGA Tour.
That was short-lived.
Wie accepted a sponsor's invitation on Tuesday to play the John Deere Classic for the third year in a row.
"We are very excited to have Michelle Wie back in our field for the 2007 John Deere Classic," said tournament director Clair Peterson on the event's Website. "She is a wonderful talent who attracts a tremendous amount of interest among traditional and non-traditional golf fans, which helps broaden the game's appeal, especially among young people."
Wie has not played on either tour since the 2007 Sony Open in Hawaii on the PGA Tour. She hurt her wrist shortly thereafter, but will return next week on the LPGA Tour at the Ginn Tribute Hosted by Annika.
The John Deere Classic is scheduled for July 12-15, 2007.
Last year in this event, Wie was carted off the course after she withdrew in the second round due to heat exhaustion. She has not made the 36-hole cut in six attempts on the PGA Tour.
In 2005, Wie was in position on her back nine Friday to make the cut at the John Deere, but finished with a double-bogey and bogey late to miss the cut by two strokes.
"I am really happy to be returning to the John Deere Classic," Wie said. "The people of the Quad Cities have supported me and rooted for me like no other. I feel very warm and loved at the John Deere Classic."
