Hockey: Alfredsson's OT goal sends Ottawa to first Stanley Cup finals
Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Daniel Alfredsson's goal 9:32 into overtime sent the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals at HSBC Arena.
Alfredsson took a pass from Dany Heatley in the neutral zone, skated down the left wing, and took a wrister from the left circle using a Sabres defender as a screen. The puck zipped along the ice and hit the net just inside the far post, sending the Senators bench into a frenzy.
Ottawa wins the series four games to one and reaches the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in franchise history. They await the winner of the Western finals between Detroit and Anaheim. The series is tied at two games apiece with Game 5 set for Sunday in Detroit.
