MLB: Yanks swept by Angels; drop six games below .500
Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - John Lackey hurled eight solid innings as the LA Angels of Anaheim bested New York, 4-3, to complete a weekend sweep at Yankee Stadium.
Lackey (8-3) allowed just two runs on five hits to win his fourth straight outing for the streaking Angels, who have won nine of 11 games. Howie Kendrick finished 2-for-4 with a run scored for Los Angeles.
Light-hitting Wil Nieves, who came in to the game 1-for-27, was the New York offense. The catcher was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in for the floundering Yankees, who have dropped four of their last five games.
Mike Mussina was brilliant for 6 1/3 innings but was let down by the shaky New York bullpen. The veteran allowed just two runs on five hits while fanning six and walking just one.
Scott Proctor (0-2) failed to record an out in the seventh inning and picked up the loss.
