NHL: Ducks try to end West finals in Game 6 against Detroit
(Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks will try to make it back to the Stanley Cup finals tonight, when they aim to close out their series against the top- seeded Detroit Red Wings in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals at the Honda Center.
This best-of-seven set was tied at two games apiece, but the second-seeded Ducks grabbed a 3-2 series edge with Sunday's dramatic Game 5 victory in Detroit. If the Red Wings win this evening, the decisive Game 7 will be played Thursday evening in the Motor City.
The winner of this series will face the Ottawa Senators in the Stanley Cup finals. The Sens beat Buffalo in five games to earn their first-ever trip to the final round.
Scott Niedermayer lit the lamp with 47.3 seconds remaining in regulation on Sunday and Teemu Selanne netted the game-winner in overtime to lift Anaheim to the 2-1 triumph.
Selanne also added an assist while Jean-Sebastien Giguere stood tall and turned away 36 shots for Anaheim, which has won the last two games of this set to push Detroit to the brink of elimination.
