NHL: Maloney to be named Coyotes GM
Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Don Maloney is expected to be named the new general manager of the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday.
According to a report in The Arizona Republic, the club will officially name him to the post at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
Maloney, who spent the last nine seasons as the assistant GM with the New York Rangers, was selected as the best candidate among three final choices to fill the vacancy created when Mike Barnett was relieved of his duties. Phoenix has employed four men to the position since its 1996 move from Winnipeg.
The Ontario native was the 26th overall pick of New York in 1978, and enjoyed a 13-year NHL career with the Rangers, Hartford Whalers, and Islanders.
