WTA: Jankovic, Vaidisova win openers in Paris

Paris, France (Sports Network) - Title contenders Jelena Jankovic of Serbia and Czech Nicole Vaidisova were a pair of first-round winners Tuesday at the 2007 French Open.
The fourth-seeded Jankovic, ranked fifth in the world, rushed past French wild card Stephanie Foretz 6-2, 6-2 on Day 3 at the year's second Grand Slam event.
The surging Jankovic is already 40-10 this year, including a trio of titles on the WTA Tour. She captured the Italian Masters in Rome just two weeks ago.
A sixth-seeded Vaidisova, a French Open semifinalist last year, handled Swiss Emmanuelle Gagliardi 6-4, 6-3 on the famed red clay at Stade Roland Garros.
An upset occurred when Czech qualifier Kveta Peschke took out 11th-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova 7-5, 5-7, 6-0. Petrova suffered her second straight opening-round loss at the French Open after reaching semifinals here in 2003 and 2005.
Former French Open runner-up Elena Dementieva avoided an upset by blasting German Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-2. The two-time major finalist Dementieva, seeded 13th at this fortnight, lost to her fellow Russian Anastasia Myskina in the 2004 finale here. Dementieva is fresh off her clay-court title in Istanbul.
