Auto Racing: Wilson on pole at PIR

Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Robert Doornbos won Saturday's second Champ Car qualifying session, but Justin Wilson's time on Friday was faster and he will start on the pole for Sunday's Grand Prix of Portland.
Qualifying in the middle of a rain storm, Doornbos' time of one minute, 11.629 seconds (98.709 m.p.h.) won the former F1 driver a spot on the front row with Wilson. For winning the session, Doornbos will get one championship point as well as the spot on the front row.
Wilson's winning time on Friday was 58.000 seconds (121.903 m.p.h.).
There was one driver who circled the Portland International Raceway circuit faster than Doornbos, but Tristan Gommendy lost the time when he brought out a red flag at the 25-minute mark.
Gommendy spun the No.22 in turn seven and stalled. When he couldn't restart the car, officials brought out the red flag to get him out of harm's way. The penalty is the loss of your fastest lap and that made Doornbos a winner. In the session Graham Rahal was second quickest at 1:11.647 with Wilson third at 1:11.670.
The second row on Sunday will be made up of three-time series champion Sebastien Bourdais and Alex Tagliani. Bourdais owns a three-point lead over Will Power in the championship.
Power, if you can remember all the way back to April 8th, won the season opener in Las Vegas while Bourdais failed to finish the race after a crash on lap 32. Then the Frenchman came back to win in Long Beach and Houston.
The race scheduled to drop the green flag on Sunday at 4 p.m. (et).
