NHL: Sens-Ducks scoreless after first period
Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Netminders Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Ray Emery stole the show in the first period, fending off heavy action on both sides of the ice to keep Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals scoreless after 20 minutes of play.
There were plenty of scoring chances in the stanza thanks to six combined power-play opportunities.
That included a two-man advantage for Ottawa, starting with just over six minutes remaining after Chris Pronger was whistled for slashing. The Senators swarmed the net for the ensuing 1:08 of 5-on-3 time, generating chance after quality chance. Mike Comrie's point-blank shot kicked off the post, though, and Giguere did the rest to keep the visitors off the board.
The Ducks rallied for a victory in the series opener on Monday, as they scored twice in the final six minutes of play to post a 3-2 triumph and gain an early edge in the series.
