Spanish Soccer: Torres, Atletico double up on Gimnastic

Tarragona, Spain (Sports Network) - Fernando Torres scored a goal in each half to lead Atletico Madrid to a 2-0 win against relegation-bound Gimnastic at Nou Estadi on Sunday.
The win moves Atletico back into the top six in the La Liga standings, one point ahead of Villarreal for the final UEFA Cup spot in Spain.
Gimnastic, meanwhile, learned before its match that the club would be headed down after Athletic Bilbao's 1-0 win over Mallorca earlier in the day.
Atletico was trying to rebound from a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Barcelona last week, and Torres got the team off to a good start 12 minutes in. Martin Ruben Castro nearly put Gimnastic ahead a couple of minutes earlier, but it was Torres who found the net first. Maxi Rodriguez provided the pass that put Torres in on goal, and the Spanish striker calmly finished off the play by slotting past keeper Chueca Ruben Perez.
Torres nearly put home his second goal of the half before Gimnastic gradually made its way back into the game before the break.
