ATP: Davydenko advances at rainy French Open
Paris, France (Sports Network) - Fourth-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko was an easy first-round winner Monday at a rainy French Open. Twenty-eight men's opening-round matches were either suspended or postponed because of rain here on Day 2, including a bout for world No. 1 superstar Roger Federer.
Rain also disrupted Sunday's opening-day schedule at Roland Garros.
Davydenko routed helpless Italian Stefano Galvani 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 in a mere 90 minutes at Roland Garros. The Russian star broke Galvani's serve seven times and the overmatched Italian compiled just three winners in a swift setback on Court 1.
The gritty Davydenko reached the quarterfinals here last year and was a semifinalist in 2005.
The top-seeded and 2006 French Open runner-up Federer was leading American journeyman Michael Russell 6-4, 4-1 when their bout was suspended until Tuesday.
