WTA: Mauresmo, Jankovic land in Strasbourg SFs

Strasbourg, France (Sports Network) - Top-seeded French favorite Amelie Mauresmo and last week's Rome titlist Jelena Jankovic were among Thursday's quarterfinal winners at the $175,00 Strasbourg International tennis event, a final French Open tune-up.

The former world No. 1 and reigning Wimbledon champion Mauresmo staved off her ninth-seeded fellow Frenchwoman Emilie Loit 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, while the second-seeded Jankovic stayed red hot by leveling Italian Maria Elena Camerin 6-3, 6-4 on the red clay at Ligue d'Alsace de Tennis.

The Serbian Jankovic upset Russian star Svetlana Kuznetsova in last week's finale in Rome.

Mauresmo's semifinal opponent on Friday will be her fifth-seeded compatriot Marion Bartoli, while Jankovic will encounter sixth-seeded Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues. Bartoli outlasted Russian Elena Vesnina 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 on Day 4, while Medina Garrigues fought back to oust fourth-seeded Chinese Na Li 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
