Spanish Soccer: Barcelona's Puyol suffers knee injury

Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Barcelona captain Carles Puyol tore a knee ligament Wednesday and could miss the start of next season.

Puyol, 28, was injured in a friendly against Mameldoi Sundown in South Africa. He will undergo surgery on his left knee immediately and is expected to miss about three months.

He will miss preseason training and a few early-season games with Barcelona as well as Spain's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Iceland and Latvia.
