Soccer England: Chelsea lures Sidwell away from Reading
London, England (Sports Network) - Chelsea signed midfielder Steve Sidwell from Reading on Tuesday on a free transfer.
Sidwell is one of the top defensive midfielders in the Premiership and was also sought after by Manchester United and Newcastle.
A former England under-21 international, he scored four goals in 35 matches last year. Sidwell, 24, turned down a four-year contract offer from Reading.
He will join Chelsea after his contract expires on July 1.
